Update -- I NEED YOUR ADVICE
I took the Titan in for service. I told them that I had a Code 335 (Crankshaft Sensor Malfunction) and the truck was "limping" home and shutting down every ten miles. I cleared the code with a cheap code reader I have--so I could get to the dealer.
The light came back on, on the way to dealer--Emission System out of Parameters. I did not clear that code--so it left the light on.
Now, they are replacing the catalytic converter! I asked, "what about the car dying and the limp-home mode, etc." (after acknowledging he forgot about that issue) the service technician told me: "We cannot do anything about that since you cleared the Code."
I asked "so even though I told you about a serious engine problem, and gave you the code--you're just going to replace my Cat and send me on my way." Basically, the answer was "yes" unless they could make the light come back on!
I need advice-- 1. Is thier diagnostic software so rudimentary and basic that it can basically do NOTHING if the code is cleared by a cheap handheld code reader? I find that both hard to believe, and if true, disturbing. 2. Is it true that they won't perform warranty work unless they get an error code to show? 3. Is is just me or does it seem a bit odd to replace a Cat Converter that has 6,000 miles on it?
