If indeed someone sprayed something, it looks like someone went through a lot of effort to get a nice even coat of whatever they sprayed.

Thaimonkey ain't the only one with this problem, so I definitely believe it isn't overspray or splatter from a foreign substance.  The wheelwells on my truck are doing a similar thing, just not as severe.  My guess is that it may be caused by a residue of soap we may be using on the truck.  I've been using regular liquid dishwashing soap, like "Dawn" to wash my truck (Yes I know its probably horrible on the clearcoat, but I'm too cheap or busy to buy quality car wash stuff sometimes).

What kind of soap you using Thaimonkey?

You've been splattered or sprayed by something my friend. Highly unlikely it's rain. Looks more like shaving cream or oven cleaner has been applied. Or some other sort of chemical. Have you run your fingers on it and given it a good smell-check? You might be enlightened. You might also consider wearing rubber gloves when you do this in case it's something chemical-based.

In any event, if I woke up and found this mess in the driveway, garage, or wherever you park it, I wouldn't worry about a "warranty" on your bedliner -- I'd be calling the State Farm Agent STAT. It's got to be covered under the comprehensive portion of your policy.

I had some nit-wit bend an antennae on a vehicle a few years back. My insurance took care of it no prob., no questions asked. That's what you're paying all that money for every year.

Advice if I were you: Call your agent.

Best of luck my friend. This doesn't look good.

PS - where in Md. are you?

Nismo - That's what I am saying. Defect? I don't think so. Someone sprayed SOMETHING in that bed. My guess - oven cleaner, or something strong enough to suck the black out of the plastic. - Jim

i really dont think someone sprayed anything. the day before this occurred i had washed the truack and bed with a mesuiars car wash soap. this was the first time i ever washed the bed. and i only wshed half the bed. then that same night it rained and the next morning the bed looked like it looks now.  its hella ugly... so does anyone think that the dealer wil warranty this or should i just call insurance and claim it through them. i dont want my rates going up. i already claimed a windshield repair 2 months ago.  what does everyone think..

also i live in wheaton maryland. montgomery county for those that asked.

This is wild!  Considering that this is the first case that I have seen of this, I would know that it is certainly not a mfg. defect of some kind.  My guess is that you have been jacked with!  What was in the bed before.  I only ask this because of the evidence of a can in the bed.  (can someone say CSI!)

How long have you been driving? Read your policy my friend. You need to bone-up on your coverage.

Most importantly, your rates will not go up on a comprehensive claim, and if they did with a windshield claim (as you're worried about), you got screwed. Suck it up and change agents. Comprehensive claims do not effect your rates, or rather -- they shouldn't. Tell your agent some guy (me) in the Titan forum says so.

Furthermore, I can't believe you've been "farting around" in this forum with this problem for days now and haven't made a claim or spoken with your insurance agent.  Yet, you've taken the time to spray your bed with something, post it in here, and ask us what we think.

Does anyone else find this odd?

Then you say you only washed "half" the bed and the whole bed's stained like that? Why did you only wash half your bed? The other half another day? Jeez - this is weird...

Something stinks here folks....

I may go out on a limb here - but I think you're a troll my friend.

Some other guy in another string said Nissan pulled a bed off their production line and replaced his with that. Another highly unlikely BS story -- much like yours.

I'm not sure about the liner that Nissan uses, but I've read up on Rhino, LineX, etc..and they all claim they can fix scratches and other damage by respraying the problem area, so I imagine Nissan could as well. However, I'm going on the assumption that your bed has somehow been "bleached" by some combination of chemicals you used or maybe in combination with acid rain. The fact that the bucket left a perfect circle also suggests to me that maybe the sun played some role in the change as any chemical or rain would have gotten under the bucket. Depending on what kinda chemical change has taken place, I guess it is also possible that a respray wouldn't take hold. For your sake I hope this isn't the case. LineX claims their formula holds up to a whole range of chemicals incl. fertilizers and battery acid, so I cant imagine what could cause that kind of discoloring. Here again, I don't know what brand of liner Nissan uses....

On a different note, your use of dish washing liquid on your truck is prolly not a good idea. I don't know of any problems it would cause directly. However, everyone should keep a decent coat of wax on their auto, and Dawn, Joy, etc. will remove every trace of wax from your finish. So of course over time your paint will deteriorate.

I used to do yard work for a disabled neighbor. I worked for him for about 8 years and he would sometimes get me to wash his truck for him. He always had a Ford truck and he traded about every 2 years. He insisted that I use hot water and gobs of Joy, and he never waxed his trucks. By the time he traded, every one of his trucks had the paint peeling off in chunks. Maybe Ford trucks had crumby paint jobs in the mid-80s, I don't know. But I am convinced that his use of Joy and lack of waxing was the main cause. If you use a carnuba wax you should prolly apply a good coat every 4-6 weeks, some paint sealant systems will last as long as 3-6 months. Its not just about making it look pretty and shiney...the main purpose is to protect the paint from the damaging elements of the sun, acid rain, etc....GL...keep on truckin.
