That is how Nissan has gotten by or is trying to get by with using the smallish Dana 44 size rearend--because with the higher gear ratios (2.87 and 3.36) the pinion gear is large which results in more gear tooth contact with the ring gear and equates to more strength for the size of rearend. I know of several knowledgeable friends who watched the Titan Forums before making their decisions on what brand of pickups to buy. A couple of the guys bought Fords based on what they had read about Titan rearend failures.
The Titan would be a great truck if they had put a bigger rearend in it. Wait till guys start putting on bigger tires and lower gears. Then the rearend failures will really start happening.
