I'm getting one in the mail in about five days. Just so you know, noise has nothing to do with an intake. Volant is said to be the best on the market. It simply lets the eng. breath better. If you can figure out how to turn on a home computer you can install one. If you aren't mechnically minded read the instructions over and over agian. Don't forget to reset the computer on the truck by removing the negative ground cable for several minutes. If you want more power, upgrade your exaust too and add a Thrtl Body spacer.

I'm really considering an air intake. Just don't know whether Volant or the fuel injection intake from K&N, which would be better? I've heard that both are the "best" and the price difference is minimal. Anyone know?

I have a Volant and I am very satisfied with it. Any intake you add will give you gains, but the numbers that I have found say that the Volant has the best numbers. But its mostly personal preferance as to which one you want to go with. As far as a TB spacer I havent really seen to many gains while I was doing my research for mods, but other people say that they can feel gains, I would like to see a dyno run with and without a spacer. I had a TB spacer on my first truck that I owned and it really didnt do much.

TB spacers don't do anything. They
claim to make the air a vortex as it passes through,
therefore making the air and fuel mix better.
1. looking at the pics they are about 3" in diameter and the
helical grooves are tiny. they will not make the air spin.
2. Even if the air were spinning as it went through the spacer,
it still has to go through the plenum and then the air splits into
runners for each cylinder that are about 8" long. by the time the
air gets to where the fuel injectors are, the air wouldn't be spinning
anymore.
3. Even if it did spin the air, and it was still spinning when it
reached the fuel injectors, you wouldn't want it to. If the air
is spinning too much centrifugal force will spin the fuel right out of
the air. The fuel would just collect on the runner walls and drip
into the cylinder.
They are a gimmick so companies can make money.

Spacers are originally used to increase the volume of the air intake therefore allowing for better atomization of the fuel. The grooves that make the air "spin" is just something that makes one company say,"look, ours is better!" Just my 2 Cents!

So guys, whats the bottom line. Is the Volant better than a K&N Cold Air Intake or is just personal preference. Did anyone realize any mileage gains after installation, or is the issue strictly HP?
