this product has to be set for each specific truck and the mods that have been made at that time? what if you make mods down the line, can you make the changes to the unichip or are you stuck with no making no additional mods in the future?

That first statement sounds like you have taked with Unichip and have had problems with thier maps and this is what they are telling you after buying thier product. I can hear it now Unichip says: Your CAI is different than what our base map and thus you gotta get a custom tune at  a qualified Unichip shop. cha-ching$$ and no Hp to boot go figure.

The unichip can be retuned after each mod. Retuning costs bucks...tuner time, dyno time and so forth. The Nissan ECU adapts very well and quickly. It would be best served to buy the Unichip if your going to S/C or Turbo or add cams etc. But there is no need for it on a OEM Titan motor. I'm trying to get my money back at this moment from Unichip while still providing them specific truck data for thier R&D. Yeah its twisted I know but heck right now I think I have a bulky $735 paperweight and a decent red LED keychain.

Hey Jack...Yeah tell me about it. Been trying one month already. They keep telling me I voided the warranty by installing myself. I'm not done asking them yet...

if there isn't anything in the purchase paper work on needing to be professionally installed then i don't see how it can void the warranty. but isn't the concept of aftermarket items that they are usually installed by the purchaser?

i would keep posting as much info as possible to keep other titan owners from getting one of these chips.

Here is their warranty policy provided to me via their GM who knows I'm out of 90day, who knows my Nissan ECU beat his chip, who know I installed it myself.

Also for those who think I'm just talking hatefully toward a company let me say I am but also let me say that I rarely find myself in this situation after buying a product as it usually does what they say it does.

For those of you who have the so called 100 chips sold please chime in to this thread as I would really honestly like to know how your has worked out for you. I know there must be one in Oregon somewhere as Jack told me you where just there for them to look at the truck.

FOr those of you who are stuck like me please feel free to join the BBB compliant:

Email from Jack Freidman at Unichip

Randall,

Thank you for the e-mail.  Our warranty policy is unchanged since we established the company and we stand behind it exactly as written.  Customers seeking refunds under the performance clause must comply with the terms of the guarantee; the relevant sections are included below.  You’re certainly welcome to take the kit back where you bought it and work with them for a refund; however, they are within their rights to decline as you have not complied with the terms.

Like any customer, we’re more than willing to support you.  Obviously the “paperweight” is does something because once you got the correct map into it, the engine went from a loss to a “push.”  The issue has nothing to do with Titan R&D but rather what your specific truck is doing.  The only way we can figure that out is to either get your truck to a qualified tuner or for us to see the data required to determine what the truck is doing.

If you’d like to get your truck running the way you want, we remain ready to do so.

Jack

For 90 days following the original owner’s purchase of a Unichip, Unichip of North America (UNA) warrants no other ECU product generates more power from a specific gasoline engine than a properly functioning, custom tuned Unichip in the specific vehicle for which it is tuned.  If another ECU product generates more power from that engine within 90 days of the original owner’s purchase of the Unichip, then UNA will refund original owner the cost of all UNA parts, UNA installation, and UNA tuning.  Shipping, testing, dynamometer costs and the cost of removing any UNA parts are specifically not covered by this warranty and will not be refunded to the owner.

To claim a refund, owners must provide dynamometer proof another ECU product produced more power when installed on the specific vehicle and that vehicle and all of its parts were in an identical condition other than the ECU enhancement.  Three repeatable dynamometer tests must be performed using the Unichip and three repeatable tests using the other ECU product.  The average of the three tests performed on each product shall constitute that product’s score for determining power.  The same technician, using the same dynamometer in an identical condition with the same settings, must perform all test runs.  All environmental conditions including ambient and IAT temperature and pressure altitude and the vehicle’s cooling system temperatures and drive train temperatures must also be identical for all six runs.  IAT and Coolant temperature data logged information for each run is required The vehicle must also use the same fuel for all six tests.  UNA reserves the rights to, at UNA’s exclusive discretion, re-tune the Unichip involved in a performance warranty claim at no cost to the customer making the claim or to provide a warranty refund; if after a retune, the Unichip still makes less power than another product; UNA will provide a refund IAW this warranty statement.

Any and all warranties on the Unichip are void if: 1) the custom installation or custom tuning of the Unichip was performed by anyone other than a UNA qualified dealer or tuner, 2) anyone other than a qualified UNA tuner or dealer alters or modifies or attempts to alter or modify any of the electronic data within the Unichip or 3) the UNA product is used for anything other than its intended purpose or is physically or electrically damaged.

Jack - General Manager

Got my check today from vendor. In short I'm glad Unichip agreed to do this exchange. So I will close this chapter until someone has a tuner tune the truck and can prove power gains as well as have user adjustable modules.
