Have any of you fellow Titan owners had any luck in locating an aftermarket DVD package thats easy to install without much modification to the truck?

The place that tinted my front driver & passenger windows also does custom audio (actually - that's their main business) and are very reputable in my area. I spoke to the owner about a DVD install for the rear seat. His price was $900 and included (1) pair of wireless headphones. When I asked him about the price (thinking it was a bit high), he said the problem was that the fold down tray only rotates down to 90 degrees and there's no way to get it to go further. And because of that, a higher resolution LCD screen with a wider viewing angle must be used which is the biggest cost driver. Apparently the factory DVD screen rotates to around 110 degrees. He went on to explain that they remove the tray, modify it to fit the LCD display, create a trim panel to make the install look "clean", re-install everything, and wire/install the DVD player. He said he's done four of them for the local Nissan dealer.
His opinion was that a portable system would be a more cost effective solution unless one just had to have that custom look.
Hope this helps.
Tom

Thanks Tom. I guess I should have just sprung for the factory system at the time of purchase. Any chance your DVD guys is located in the Dallas TX area?

Nope - sorry Chad. I live in Savannah, GA.
From what these guys told me, I think $900 is probably a "going rate". I suspect that you might do a bit better simply because of the increase competition in your market. Also, from past experience, if you walk into a custom install place and tell the guy all you've got to spend is $800 let's say, generally they'll try to work with you.
Personally....I think you'd get a much better system with aftermarket than the factory system for the same price. IMHO.

Hey Tom,
I am in Warner Robins, GA. Any chance your audio guys would know a place here that can work a similar deal?

I am a custom a/v installer. At this time there are 2 companies making replacement headrests with 7 inch monitors. Just pull your headrests and install the aftermarkets. Audiovox makes them and even has the DVD built into one of the screens. Myron and Davis is the other. Easiest installs and best way to not cut up your Titan.

I just bought a $250 portable DVD for the kids instead of spending $900 for aftermarket or $1500 for the Nissan option. They can take to portable one in the house or another car if they want.

I had a custom install done.they mounted a 7 inch monitor in the rear flip down
compartment in roof.looks factory. They mounted dvd player with tv tuner in center
console.System looks factory.Audio runs threw radio and can be used with factory
rear audio and wireless headphones,my LE came with infer-red for wireless, but no
headphones.Got it all done for 600.00 at a place called car toys in richmond VA.
Verry happy with price and quality.
