this is my first time posting here. im 22 living in Miami, Florida. I got my 2005 nissan titan SE crew-cab, 4x2, no tow package, on june 11 (last saturday) so far im a lil concern about my gas mileage. i see many people here getting 300-400 per full tank...im not close to that. i got my truck with 8 miles, full tank of gas (courtesy from dealer) wednesday this week i dropped down to 1/4 and filled up 19 gallons. today i have half way up past the 1/2 mark. i do mostly driving on highway. i dont use the a/c most of the time in the city only highway. the total mileage that the truck has right now is 395. so tommorrow is gonna be 1 week. and i started with full tank of gas, i have refueled and now by tommorrow i will be by 1/2 a tank. thats 6 quarters in all. what you guys think? is it because my truck is fairly new. i have read you usually have to wait for the truck to break in to get better mileage. but honestly i think my current mpg is horrible. what you guys think? what should i do? i plan to add a soft cover (rollup) bed cover soon. your response is appreciated. thank you.

Sorry to have to give you the bad news, but you don't buy a Titan for high mileage.- I have a 2004 LE Crew Cab (with a Big Tow Package) and I'm lucky to get 13.2 miles per gallon - and that's mixed city/ highway in Ft. Lauderdale.   It's just not fuel efficient. And to give you more cause for concern, I was going to report to the forum that I tried a Tornado type vortex system and it actually reduced the truck's mileage.  From there, I put in K&N Air Intake system - offroad pack - and did not get one extra mile to a gallon. I will try straight highway driving in the next few weeks, but I really don't care about the mileage, I love the truck.

So, its fair to say, if you want to drive a Titan, you better have a good line of credit at your local gas station!Big smile

i know any truck is not fuel efficient. im not worry about that. i love this truck. its awesome...i was just concerned about the mpg im currently doing now. after reading this forum on how you have to wait to break in the truck the mileage should increase im ok with that. i noticed on my 2nd fill up a slight increase on mpg. i also plan to add synthetic fluids once i reach the certain mileage recommended for that. im currently pumping regular at $2.10 per gallon. i dont wait till its empty to fill. i fill once i have 1/4 left. i use my citi bank dividends mastercard....which gives me back 5% on gas purchases at any gas station. so with this i save a few extra $$$$.

Well, thought I'd revive this one a bit.

With a tick under 22k on the odo I paid close attention the past fill up and jotted down some numbers.

325m/24g of gas. That's 13.5mpg.

Not as bad as I'd thought it migh be but on the other hand nothing to jump up and down about.

Condtions: Phoenix city only this tank. Local driving and with AC on. I'm no lead foot (not in the truck anyhow- see the web page if you want more info) but I'm not your grandma either. Actually I'm leaning her way....

Shift points are all about 25-2800 rpm. Surface street rpm is about 1500. I don't know if you could really pus it any more than I did on this tank and still not be a chicane.

So what have we learned now pushing a year in this truck? It tows like a mutha. But for nearly everything else it's sub par. For 30k and $600/mo I'd really have expected more out of this vehicle. In a number of ways.

**8/1
Next tank down the tube.
Numbers are down to 12.1mpg.

I'v got a little over 22K on the truck now. I took it from Riverside, CA to Sequoia National Park a couple weeks ago. I averaged slightly above 14 mpg. I have notices a small yet gradual increase in gas milage as the miles add up. I agree with a post or two prior though... the Titan is not a fuel effecient truck. Although talking to others with slightly older american comperable trucks we do tend to get better milage the they do. I've heard 10 mpg it's bad in some cases.

I just took a trip to Key Largo, about 160 miles . First time on the open road for a period of time with my new truck. I finally was able to use cruise control , and step on it when needed to pass other cars.

Man was I just happy as $%&* driving my TITAN , I have the  smoke colored, off road , big tow package with the R/F 6 CD stereo. I Added the Banks monster exhaust and put the K & N drop in filter.

I also added vent visors and the factory smoke step bars. And a billett grill insert . Also I love the spray in vortex liner. And the tailgate extender and tie down system

Cruising at 75-78 mph was no sweat. the truck was being held back, by me not wanting to get a speeding ticket.

i drove an extra 100 miles each way just to go to a few places in Key West for a little bit. On the way back i hit 100 mph going over the 7 mile bridge , and this TITAN had no fear! It was breathing that enriched oxygen of the Atlantic and The Gulf of Mexico and just took off! It handled real well, no vibration or shimmy in the  steering. (*** I don't recomend this to any chevy, ford , or GMC owner***)

Finally I was able to get 17 mpg on the trip, and i was HAMMERING it alot.

LOVE THIS TITAN!!
