Well, we know the mpg would not be anything close to that of a car, but I'm all for getting the best mileage I can possibly get. If I had a choice between 12 or 17 I would choose the 17 especially at the gas prices these days. But yeah, we both agree don't buy a truck to get great gas mileage knowing we would use it to haul the heavy stuff. It's nothing I'm worried about, but I'd still like to get the best gas mileage the truck is capable of getting, whatever that is, especially these days of high gas prices.

R/T to CO and back to AZ. Pulling the race car on an open trailer (2300#) I ran right at the standard 12mpg.
Best was about 13.6, worse about 11.2.
Hills and valleys, assorted gears, normally 70-75mph.

Considering what you were pulling, the weight of a race car plus the trailer it was on, your mpg was not so bad. What do you normally get when not pulling anything re: city driving and highway driving?

That IS the weight of the race car and the trailer.
'Round town; 12mpg.
Highway w/o trailer; maybe 14.
So yea I guess 12 is a bargain pulling the trailer...lol

I have a 2004 Titan 4x4 with 6900 miles on it. Theorically, this truck must make 14mpg City and 18mpg Hwy. I don't know if mine has problems, but since I bought this truck I'd been making aprox. 9.4 mpg. Do you guys know if this is fine? I took my truck to the dealer for a diagnostic and they said it's fine.
I have a friend who bought an Armada 2006 and his SUV in making 370 miles per tank, more than 100 miles than mine. My is that both vehicles have the same engine.
Are there any suggestions or comments?

There just seems to be more positive changes overall with the brakes, windows etc. ALthough I have not heard anything, I wonder if the newer model Titans also get better mileage too, although I don't know. Just guessing here. I would never buy any vehicle the first year it is out. I wait 2 or 3 years and in this case, I know the other problems were taken care of after a year and a half. Maybe the gas mileage is part of that improvement too.

9 is too low in my opinion...I'd buy a locking gas cap to eliminate that concern..Then I'd try a different brand of gas if you already havent...Plus I assume you are truely checking the milage against the amount it takes to fill the tank back up.....( looking at the fuel gauge and assuming that 1/2 a tank equals 14 gallons is not even gonna get you close to an accurate mpg rating. ) I dont think I could make mine get that low if I tried...I get: worse 12.9 ...best 17.8 ...gl

I GET 20MPG CITY AND 25 HWY AFTER SMOKING A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF WEED . I FIGURE, THAT'S THE BEST TIME TO CHECK MPG. HEHEHEHE JOKING ASIDE. 15 CITY AND 18.5 HWY IS NOT BAD.

Well I guess ill jump in here and tell you guys my gas mileage with a 04 XE (cheapest model) 2 wheel drive I had. I put in a dropin K&N filter and a flow master 70 series big block single in and single out setup still using the stock out let pipe. I at the time lived in cape coral florida and would make many trips to tampa and eventually to OCALA where I live now. My mileage around town varied with this set up at any where from 9-14.5 MPG, but on the high way it was any where from 16.5 to 20.2! yes I did 19.8-20.2 many times, BUT!! and this is true, I had to be driving my TITAN at least 80mph to get the higher gas mileage, I would get worse driving a steady speed of 65MPH than at 80MPH! I even had a hemi lover in my truck one day and put his bike on the back of my titan bed and drove 143 or so miles one way to drop it off. We filled the TITAN to the top untill the gas almost poured out of the truck and took off. We were doing 75-90mph and when we got to the bike shop we filled up the minute we got off the highway, yep, 19.8MPG .He was sold. So now the bad news,When I moved up to ocala I went by a muffler shop and a guy talked me into putting in a single inlet SPINTECH muffler with duel out lets just behind the wheels. So I did, man the truck really sounded awsome, and just a slight noise in the cap, very mellow. I also then added a airraid air box ,no throttle spacer (they didnt have one in 04 yet).SO now with these new items on my titan king cab my truck went faster and sounder awsome BUT my mileage driving the same speeds and condidtions never bettered the 15.5- 17.8 on the high way and I noticed a slight reduction in torque below 2,100 rpm's, just wasn,t as crisp.I had 28,000 miles when I traded in the titan for a 05 new style frontier king cab with the 265 HP V6.Well after 11,000 miles in this new truck the mileage increase isnt worth the comfort and V-8 sound I lost in my titan so now im back to a 06 XE (the cheap one) king cab. So far I only added the new HELIAX throttle spacer and a K&N dropin filter and the dealer owes me two more free fillups of gas, but im getting so far almost 200 miles on a half tank of gas and I have yet to take it on the highway, only got 400 miles on it, so as soon as I start paying for gas Ill post my fuel mileage results, as far as the exhaust goes I just might put the same flow master 70 single exhast muffler on this truck too? By the way, a guy around the corner from me also has a fully equiped 04 king cab, and I gave him my dropin K&N filter and the 70 series flow master muffler for free, (he's a state trooper) and he gained 2 MPG on the same trips he makes, he was skeptical at first but he is now impressed with the results, he still has the truck and last week he was walking with his wife and seen I had went back to the TITAN king cab and said he still was getting 19 on the high way not towing any thing!
