OK, I really need advice on this. I want to get SAT radio but I don't think I have the right head unit. My build date is 04/04 and I don't see the Sticker on the door jamb. So, I have to do either the FM Modultor or use the AUX port with an external device. Now that all sounds good, but I have NO CLUE how it all works or what this stuff is. What do I do. Before I ask that, can someome please answer this? If I use an external reciever that plugs into the AUX jack, will that still use the radio on a defined channel to pick up XM radio or Sirius? I understand there could be some bleed over. I also thought that bleed over happens with FM modulators only. What kind of unit do I go with. If I want to mount it, how will I power it and it would suck to have the wire stick out for the AUX jack. By using the AUX jack, does that mean you will not have to have your Radio set to a certain channel to pick it up. What is a good unit to buy, but no too outrageous in $$. Last, what is the deal between Sirius and XM. I know what I want to hear is on XM but does that mean Sirius will not have it?
Sorry to ramble, I asked alot, but I would really, really appreciate some good, solid advice on this.
Thanks
Smokey

I went to Tweeter last night and they actually have an Alpine head unit with a built in XM receiver for only $350.I don't know if you would want to go that route but this is really a great buy.
On the subject of XM vs Sirius, both seem to be great services.I have XM in my car and truck and I love it!XM is $3 a month less expensive than Sirius and they offer a discount if you have it in more than car.

I already had a Sirius subscription from a previous auto when I purchased my Titan so I went with an Audiovox brand, Sirius receiver. I liked that one because it fit on the dash where the Nav system would have been. And it also had the amber display that matched the factory radio. I have had numerous compliments on how it looks.
My parents had some trouble using the FM Modulator with their Sirius system so I didnt want to fool with that. I had mine professionaly installed. They were able to wire the power in under the dash and then brought the Aux cable down through the dash and back out right beneath the Aux input on the front of the radio....(so only about 2-3" of the Aux cable is showing). With the set-up I have, I dont have to worry about the FM modulator. It is basically just bypassed, so I dont have to worry about bleed-thru from other radio stations when I travel. I do have to turn the volume up more than I do if listening to another source..ie. Stereo/CD. But that isnt a big issue with me because I listen to Sirius 99% of the time. you can see a picture of my receiver on www.sirius.com

I did the same as puffman. I ran my Sirius through the uax and I don't have to worry about the FM interference. I think the reason the volume is way down is because I think the aux is mono, not stereo. But, I turned the volume on the reciever itelf up, and that helped out a bit. Oh, and Sirius does offer a discount for multiple acounts, plus they have an exclusive contract with the NFL, NHL (if they play this year), and the NBA, and (as I just found out) they broadcast all the college FB games as well. XM I think only has NASCAR.

I agree BigD, I love my Sirius. But I think you may be mistaken about the Aux input, (unless Im confused about what you meant) Im pretty sure the Aux input is stereo ...as it would sound like total crapola if it were only mono.

Actually, I think you're right. I messed around with it today and it does come in stereo, just really low.

You might check to make sure the plug is all the way in the jack, it seems to me like one time I got real scared cuz mine was playing in mono and it was because the plug had come loose....or you might check to make sure your Aux wire is a stereo wire....keep on rockin
