Anybody know why there are no procedures for checking transmission fluid level?  The owner's manual says take it to a dealer and the dipstick is BOLTED in.  Just curious.

My way, could be totally wrong, but here goes:

Three mile ride, truck on level ground, idling in park, 10mm socket, and check twice.

Copy THAT!  But, why isn't it in the owner's manual?  Seems a bit odd doncha' think?  I've never seen a dipstick BOLTED in to make it awkward and time consuming to check the fluid level.  Ah what the heck, if it leaks I'll take it in.  If it blows I'll blame it on the dipstick and the lack of owner's manual instructions

See ya!

The bolted dipstick was also odd to me. Embarassed to say that I haven't even looked at my manual. ooopppsss.

I very well may be wrong here, and it wouldn't be the first time, but don't transmissions have even alittle bit of pressure when they are running at full song? Because I've noticed on all of my recent trucks and you either had to push the thing over the lip of the tube, or the dipstick had a lock made onto the end of it. Maybe they are just being different.

Yea, i think the bolted on dipstick is kinda wierd, but hey at least it has one! My wifes 2002 explorer does NOT HAVE ONE! You have to take it to a service center or dealer if you want it checked. What a POS that Ford tranny is.

I bought the Nissan Electronic Service Manual on CD (210$ by mail) Just get a Ratchet wrench, undo it and check. If its cold just shift through all the gears while it still parked and check, when you check: insert stick with the bolt opposite the hole the nut goes back into. Definitley check your tranny oil cause there have been instances where the truck comes from assembly without fluids-were only human!

I figured that the dipstick was bolted so that one couldn't easily add just any transmission fluid to it, since the Titan transmission takes Nissan's own special fluid.
