Last night, on the highway, cruise control at 70mph.  All of sudden, a "clunk" like the tranmission downshifted and then, no power.  Had to coast off of the roadway.

I check all over--no leaks, no smoke, no funny smells, nothing.

Start it back up, go about 10 miles--same thing, engine dies and will not restart until I coast to a stop.  (It was about 4 a.m. so I had to keep going and repeating this process until I got home an hour later.)  The Titan will basically only run if I keep the rpms between 2 and 3k.  Below 2k and it dies, above 3k and its bucking like a wild bronco.  (I'm thinking this is the computer's "limp-home" mode, but not sure.)

The Service Engine Soon light is on--but this does not seem to be a simple emmissions control problem.  Now it takes several seconds of cranking to start the Titan, and then it sputters and coughs and will not idle correctly.

I"ll check the codes tonight and post my findings.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

Just curious - Have you added any mods which might have interfeared with it's performance?

Keep us posted.

I checked the Codes and had one error -- Crankshaft Position Sensor
Malfunction.
The Code was cleared, and I'll test drive tonight.
Regardless, i'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow.
Will keep you posted.

The Crank position sensor was a major issue on many of the new VQ35 motors had it replaced in both of mine. I hope we don't see it appear on this motor. Let it be known that it it an outsourced part and not somehting Nissan has done wrong.

Update -- I NEED YOUR ADVICE

I took the Titan in for service.  I told them that I had a Code 335 (Crankshaft Sensor Malfunction) and the truck was "limping" home and shutting down every ten miles.  I cleared the code with a cheap code reader I have--so I could get to the dealer.

The light came back on, on the way to dealer--Emission System out of Parameters.  I did not clear that code--so it left the light on.

Now, they are replacing the catalytic converter!
I asked, "what about the car dying and the limp-home mode, etc."  (after acknowledging he forgot about that issue) the service technician told me:
"We cannot do anything about that since you cleared the Code."

I asked "so even though I told you about a serious engine problem, and gave you the code--you're just going to replace my Cat and send me on my way."
Basically, the answer was "yes" unless they could make the light come back on!

I need advice--
1.  Is thier diagnostic software so rudimentary and basic that it can basically do NOTHING if the code is cleared by a cheap handheld code reader?  I find that both hard to believe, and if true, disturbing.
2.  Is it true that they won't perform warranty work unless they get an error code to show?
3.  Is is just me or does it seem a bit odd to replace a Cat Converter that has 6,000 miles on it?

Man that sounds like my kinda luck..I guess I can understand why they cant/wont address the crankshaft problem if they truely cant get the code that was cleared...still sux tho. As for the Cat, it shouldnt be worn out in that length of time but I guess it could have some kind of defect..(or they could be trouble shooting by replacing the easy stuff first) ...GL
