Any suggestions on how to remove a stubborn oil filter?  The filter is pretty banged up after my futile efforts.

It simply has not budged.  I've already drained the oil and I'm not sure if the filter has a hole in it.

On my first oil change I think I made a mistake by doin it myself. But same as you, my filter was on so tight I had to use one of those rubber strap wrenches...I also had to cut most of the plastic handle off so that I would have enough room to turn it. But it was still enough leverage to loosen the filter...finally..I thought of the the ole screwdriver trick but I was afraid to punch a hole in it...I figured if worse came to worse Id fill it back up with oil and drive it to the dealer...GL

BTW I got the strap wrench at Harbor Freight...for like 2 for $6, so I didnt feel too bad about cutting the handle off. If it had been a $20 craftsman I prolly would have just driven to the dealer....Also up until this last scenario I just described, I had always had good luck gettin filters off using a rubber glove...works in tight spaces and always provided enoughed grip to spin them off.
