ok, i have the stock "bose" stereo system in my titan and it blows.so i went to best buy and told them i wanted to keep the 6 disk changer(to maintain the classy look inside) but i wanted to replace all the speakers.they told me if i wanted to do anything, i would have to get a new cd player and the install cost alone would be 70 bucks a speaker.they suggested i go to the nissan dealership and ask them to remove the entire stereo system entirely from the truck so best buy could start completely over.this doesnt really sound practical, but is it necessary? im sure im not the only one who wasnt satisfied with the nissan stereo, so what did you guys do to improve it? please help...

Absolutely not!!!! That sounds moronic even for Best Buy. If youre hell-bent on going back to that same store, ask to speak to their mgr, or the head installer...if he winds up being 17 years old..run like hell to the nearest car audio specialist. The first thing I did to my Titan was to replace the stock speakers, and I did NOT change the factory stereo. If they cant even remove your stock stereo, I wouldnt trust them to install a new one either. Did I understand you to say that they are gonna charge you $70 to install each pair of speakers? If so, thats too much. Did they offer you an explanation WHY you would need to buy a new stereo?
See details on my stereo here... http://www.nissantitan.info/forum_posts.asp?TID=694&PN=1

I just purchased my titan. I got the SE model with the botton of the line stereo not the RF. Needless to say it totally sucks. I want to replace the speakers and possibly add an amp. Any suggestions on what size speakers I need and what's the best most economical brand.

Check out www.crutchfield.com they have a chart to show you what sizes you need. Go to your local car audio store, Check out the speakers they have...listen to them...Get a written quote w/ install fees ...Also ask them how much they charge to install speakers you purchased elsewhere (it usually will be higher). Then go online and search for the best price...try www.mysimon.com Be sure to pay attn to speaker depths and shipping costs. Compare this to what you were quoted from the car audio place. IMHO you can usually save $$ buying online. If all this is more than you wanted to attempt, Id suggest goin to Circuit City or Best Buy (cheap prices, no haggle) Good brands incld MB Quart, Boston Acoustic, Infinity, Alpine, Eclipse...but even Kenwood or Pioneer would be a big improvement over fact spkrs...I personally like Polk Audio...
Once you have an idea what you want try some of these sites: ...GL

thepuffman,
thank you much for the advice and the info. I've gone into those sites you suggested and am about to head out to Best Buy to snoop around. By the way, beautiful job on that tonneau cover looks awsome. Also if you could, tell me how you went about the Xenon lights. I was thinking about putting some on. But quite honestly it appears to be a little complicated.

Thx for the compliment on my cover. I spent a good bit of time/effort on it, but so far it has held up well and still looks as good as the day I finished it. As far as the lights go, I just replaced the fact bulbs with some of the aftermkt "Xenon" ones...Started out with some cheapies from Ebay..1 blew after 2 mths..so then I opened up my wallet and got Sylvania's Silverstars. 2 low beam + 2 high beam x $20 = $80 for all. One of them can be reached from the top..the other is most easily replaced by removing a screw from under the plastic wheel well. Then reach in from underneath and change it. Less than 30 min job. Dont touch the new bulbs with your hands tho..Try to wear gloves or a clean cloth...I found latex gloves to work best for me, cuz you can "feel" what your doin when you cant "see" what your doing...lol...GL

Puffman, do the silverstars really get close to the HIDs? I was going
to get the HID setup out of a wrecked QX56 but....If your way is better
and cheaper I'm all for it.

Well they are just fine IMO, but I wouldnt go as far as to compare them to HID...The silverstars are "white" ... next to them Halogen bulbs look yellow.
