I put a K&N filter in about a week ago, on about 1/2 a tank. I just filled up today, so maybe I can then give you a reply on the MPG. I certainly haven't lost any power, but don't think I've gained alot either.

Nissan MAF don't like oil type filters so be careful-that comes directly fron Nissan techs but if you are not worried about replacement years down the road go for it. I use Amsoil as I have had better luck with the Nissan MAFs but Hondas like K&Ns quite abit.

Just today I put a k&n cone air filter in my truck,it's 10 inches long and about 6 inches around. I went for my test run and now the truck seems quieter for some reason. When i put the petal to the metal the intake has a loud sucking in sound and has a turbo like whistle to it,I really like it.

This holds true for Porsches also.. There is a filament inside of the MAF that gets covered with oil and eventually shorts out. Replacement for the MAF is $500.00 for my 928.  It happens to alot of the guys that put them in their cars.

Not sure what the cost is for our trucks, however unless you get obvious improvement in gas mileage, I just can't see this being a benefit to the truck.  As for the Performance gains? Give me a break!

I'll stick with stock OEM for an air filter.

Then why is everybody using K&N filters and super air chargers if this could be a bad thing? Now I'm worried...

I'm not saying that an aftermarket part couldn't be bad for a particular brand or model of auto. However, keep in mind that there could be all kinds of reasons for people experiencing a particular problem (even one that has been experienced many times) ...this oiling issue for instance...Maybe it isn't the design of the product that is the issue, maybe too much oil is being applied to the filter? K&N even warns you about this.

I sell aftermarket parts (as well as OEM) to the general aviation industry. I can think of numerous examples of products I sell that got bad reps for being junk when infact it was the end users who were not following recommended installation, use, or start-up procedures. IE ....dry air pumps that were self-destructing because people were not flushing out their lines before replacement (one guy even used Teflon tape on the threads that got into the pump and ruined it. He thought he had an out-of-box failure. He wasn't happy when his warranty was denied do to his own ignorance. No tellin how many people he steered away from that product. )...light-weight starters that were burning up due to improper start-up procedures by student (and instructor) pilots.....cylinders that were rusting/failing after only 100 hours of use because the engines were sitting for months w/o being turned over....All of these products started to get negative word of mouth reputations when in fact 90% of the warranty claims could be traced back to the end user.

With that being said, I'm not claiming that is the case with K&N and Titans. I have a K&N dropin type filter on my truck and haven't experienced any problems as of yet. I will however be extra diligent not to over do it with the oil. After all its only human nature to assume if a little is good, a lot is better...lol

Oh..well with that being said, I do feel better. It's true at what you say about how a person can overdue something that may be meant to do good. I guess it's true: Knowing is half the battle. Yo Joe!!!
