Hey all,

I'm looking at picking up a new Titan 4x4 King SE.  I wanted to get people's opinions on the rockford upgrade - do you think it is worth the $500 dollar increase over the SE popular option?  I guess it would be nice to have what seems to be a well-equipped stereo that would be covered under the manufacturers warranty.  Does the factory stereo sound good enough?

Thanks!

The cd sounds ok, not great and the FM reception stinks. I'm having second thoughts about the purchase of the RF package even thou supposedly there might be a fix for the reception problem in the works.

I purchased my SE King cab off the lot and it had the Rockford Fosgate installed.  I been in numerous new trucks with standard stereo systems that sound as good or better.  If I had my choice I would not purchase that option. I do like the controls on the steering wheel.

I just brought my TITAN home tonite and noticed the FM reception sucked also. I'm going w/ XM Radio anyway - too many commercials.

Glad to find this Forum.

Hey

Nissan is working on a fix for the poor reception problem. It effects the SE popular package also. I have it and I'm waiting for the fix. I like the sound of my stereo. Not sure I could tell that much difference with the RF option. Definately enough volume to drown out pretty much anything... well except for maybe an airplane.

thanks

I have a Titan 4x4 LE with the RF option.  I think it sounds really good.  The sub pounds under the drivers seat and the speakers all around sound really good.  I am definately pleased.

I got the Fosgate radio and I am very pleased with it listening to CD's.  The radio reception is horrible.  I have to turn the volume way up (2 times the CD volume level) just to hear the music.  I am very unhappy with that.  I tightened the antenna and it helped a little.  My dumb Taurus gets better FM reception.  Unless they can assure you that the problem is fixed, don't get it!

I am pretty impressed with the RF package...really the thing to consider is whether or not you want to go aftermarket and if the answer is yes then the RF package is not for you.  I decided to persue the RF package only because the truck in stock was exactly what i wanted but with the RF package which at the time I did not want.  I have 2 Image Dynamics 12s sitting here that I was planning to put in however I have reconsidered mainly because I am pretty happy with the sound of the system.  Obviously if you are expecting heavy aftermarket sound you are going to be dissapointed but for a factory system its pretty good.

my 2 cents

I have the RF package and really like it.  I have a 1997 Z28 and when I bought it I elected to not get the Monsoon Stereo, and I sure wish I did.  The Z28 stereo is worn out and sounds crappy now and I will have to go aftermarket if I want good sound again.  Also, since it was only amped with the head unit, it could never put out enough sound to hear the stereo with the T-tops off at high speed.  Because of that experience, I took the RF option and I think it sounds 100 times better than my Z28's stereo.  And the 100 mile bumper to bumper warranty I have with the truck covers it.  So, that's a plus.  On the down side, I did notice that the volume is louder in CD than Stereo.  Seems kinda weird to me?
