Hi.  I'm a new Titan owner.  I'm originally a sports-car guy (04' RX-8) but this bad boy has brought me around to the dark side!  (black titan 4x4 SE)  When I got is last week I had a really hard time finding just what I wanted from the dealer and like most had to compromise.  Which brings me to my question:  I really wanted the Rockford Fosgate stereo but had to settle for the 6disk changer.  Which is still pretty good.   But I can't find ANY info on what the standard 6 disk changer is?  How does it really compare spec wise with the upgraded package?  I'm told it's made in the same plant with the Fosgate which isn't actually a fosgate but a panasonic or clarion or something like that?

So is the standard 6-disk changer a Panasonic?  Also from what I can tell the fosgate package has an extra center speaker in the dash and a sub woofer under the drivers seat?  And the rest of the speakers are different between packages?

(Now let's keep in mind I know very little about car audio)  Is the wiring harness the same for all the stereo's so the Rockford Fosgate can be plugged in without any modifications?  Would it make a difference without adding the sub and the amp.  From what I've read in other posts it might be as good to just upgrade the speakers?

Any input would be appreciated.  And finally I'd like to thank the members of this forum as it was incredibly helpful in my decision to buy a Titan.

thanks,

Johnathn Clayton

If you read my post titled installed new audio system, I went into a little detail about what I found in the rockford system.

My guess is that your 6 disc changer is the same Panasonic unit used in the Rockford system.

Thanks for your reply.  I did read your post and every other one pertaining to the Rockford Fosgate upgrade but nothing really explains the difference.  Seems to be as much of a mystery as why they advertise it as a "Rockford Fosgate" stereo.  Your guess that it's the same head unit is also my guess, I was just hoping to confirm it.  At this point I'm thinking it's fine the way it is and maybe my money is better spent getting the XM radio option.

yes i can confirm they are the same exact head unit

the only reason they call it rockford fosgate is cause it has a rockford amp under the driver side dash even the speakers are the same, exept for the sub and the center speaker wich the other one dont have

This makes me feel cheated. You pick out the RF system because you know it's just gonna kick ass then after some research you find out that only 1 item in the whole system is actually Rockford Fosgate. What a screw over! But, in it's defense, it does rock harder than standard stock equipment, and I actually can out perform some kids "custom" systems.

Ive heard the RF system in a friend's Titan, and it ain't bad. But if you have already purchased the truck w/o it, I would recommend replacing the factory speakers with some decent aftermarket ones. You shouldnt have to spend a bundle either; some mid-range priced Sony or Kenwoods will make a dramatic improvement to your audio system. (I prefer Polk Audio). Also, add a powered sub for a little low-end umph. Or if you want to really go nuts, add a quality 5 channel amp, and a couple of 10's under the back seat. Remember, you can spend as little or as much as you want on audio eqpt. My point is to get the most bang for your buck. IMO, replacing the factory speakers, and adding a powered sub will suffice....keep on truckin
