Hopefully no one else has to experience what I have had to, but I have 800 miles on my 05, and its in the shop tonight with a blown rear axle wheel seal.  Needless to say, Im a little worried about the reliability of the truck.  Crappy service on top of that has made me a little leary of my choice of pickup.  Hopefully this isnt a sign of future problems to come.

With all the issues on my 04 I haven't had any rear end problems. Plus my service dept. is good to me.

Well a wheel seal is better than a pinion seal. Wheel seals are pretty easy to fix and should have no long term issues stemming from the repair/replacement. Those rear ends probably come in from Dana complete. All Nissan does is bolt the rear on the frame and attach the "hang on" stuff and bolt up the driveshaft.

All you need is a crack, tear on the rubber seal lip and you got a leaker. If the seal is a little cocked it will leak also. One other thing that may cause that to leak is a bad / rough sealing area on the axle shaft itself. If it leaks again after this fix then I would suspect that to be a problem.

I gues my point is - not a big worry, it can happen on most any vehicle.

Hey,

My rear end failed on me!  The spyder gears in the box are mangeled after 6000 miles of use.  I took it the dealership and they are fixing the problem.  I wasn't worried about the truck getting fixed, I am worried about the life of the truck.  Why is this so called "Tital" blowing rear ends?  I was one of the lucky ones that had the front rotors resurfaced and some control arm replaced on the brake assembly.  I just want to put it out there that Nissan needs to take action in these minor yet annoying problems, when you pay nearly 40,000 dollars for a half ton pickup nonetheless, you expect some quality.

Besides my issues, I love the truck, it's eye catching, and fast!  I put a six inch lift on it with 35" tires on a 18" rim, very nice.....

Mondo,

If your dealer is warranting a blown rear end with that lift and tires, then I say you should stay with that dealer.  Most other dealer's would be giving you a customer pay estimate rather than fixing it for free, which I assume they are.  If their regional service rep see's it, the dealer will not be reimbursed.

Just curious, what do you have in that truck that cost you $40K.  Was that the price before you modified it?

Rick

I was just informed today that both of my rear axle seals are defective and are leaking.  Covered under warrantly but still....

2005 with 16,000 miles on it.
