have you ever tried using e85 ethanol/gas mixture in your truck? i checked the e85fuel.com for compatibility with nissan trucks. selected 2005 titan can use them. how come it doesn't apply to 2004 titan.(same engine)

Not all the '05s are E85 capable (it will be indicated on the inside of the fuel door if it is). I don't think any of the '04s are. The difference is not in the engine but in the fuel components. E85 is aggressive and there has to be special materials used to prevent premature failure of the fuel delvery system. You could run E85 in a non-flex fuel vehicle but it will cause some damage after long term use, including the cat converters.
