I saw something similar last week goin down I-85...an older model Chevy S-10 Blazer sittin high atop 22" rims. How do I know they were 22"s, and not 20"s, or 24"s you might ask?? Because the Blazer's owner was thoughtful enough to have big 22" stickers on both sides of the vehicle. That got me to thinking...WHY!?! ..Why advertise the dimension of your rims on the side of your car?!... When you spend $2000 + on a set of rims, or in this guys case, more than you did for the entire car, two things become blatantly apparent; #1 ...You got more dollars than you do sense, #2 You want everyone to know it.
But why spend so much on something so impractical in the first place? I think for the same reason some people cover their cavity-free teeth with gold, to show others just how much money they CHOSE to spend on something that has nothing other than aesthetic value. They also want everyone to "notice" them.....Seems to me there should be cheaper and safer means to accomplish this, other than perching your SUV on top of chrome plated stilts covered with 2 inches of rubber.... Maybe strap a couple of those long orange bicycle flags to their bumpers. They are cheap, impractical, and would definitely get everyones attention ...lol
