I have got wind that nissan is apparently going to be offering a big in the titan in the next couple of years. I was told that it was going to be a 7.0 liter and rated at 450 hp's. Has anyone heard this or is my source making crap up.

That would be cool. But that is the first of anything "new" about the Titan I've heard in some time. Maybe a diesel would be nice...

Nissan from my knowledge is interested in diesel's more then a "big block"  in truth they wouldn't need it they already have the 5.6 making 800 hp in the race applications and obviously some of that techology could easily be brought into production.

when you can make the kind of power with small block motor styles you can now big blocks are almost surely a done deal in most light duty truck apps

Well they're probally trying to get in the game of 3/4 ton & 1 ton pickups. If they did they would need to offer a diesel & a stonger V-8, which I could see being a big-block possibly. Toyota is already getting in that game with soon coming out with a 3/4 ton truck & trying to cut a deal with Cummins since Dodge is leaving the Cummins in 2008 or 2009 & replacing it with a Mercedes diesel.

the term big block has never been so over used in a single thread

"The Titan CORR Pro-2 entry features a 715-horsepower, 5.6-liter V8 stock block engine with 510 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm, redlining at 8,200 rpm.  Unlike many race engines, the block, cylinder heads, cam covers, water pump, main bearings, rod bearings, and ignition coils are all stock Titan components.  The engine was prepared by Menards Engine Development."

with that kind of power on tap I doubt there is a need for a second totally different (read more expensive to engineer) engine

I do agree that they do not nescarilly need to make a big block what I meant was I could see them doing if it they felt the need. Also you have to remember the engine built up like your talking about can it tow? Like take the Chevrolet SS Silverado, it is the same 6.0L block as in the 2500, but it really can't tow nearly as much as the standard 6.0L can. I honestly don't think they would make a big block, but it's possible. I think they would take the 5.6L & load some more cubic inches in there. Like maybe a 5.9L or 6.0L. Like how Dodge has the Hemi 5.7L & 6.1L.

I grant what i posted dealt with performance #'s but  have you looked at the towing #'s of these performance trucks lately?  The Silverado SS rating is beyond 8k lbs and the quad cab SRT-10 ram is rated at over 7k.  The other thing you mention which is the loss of towing capacity between the 2500 series and SS silverados.  You lose 2k pounds between them in comparable models (6 liter RWD)  My guess is that the 2k lb towing difference has more to do with the chasis difference then the engine behind it.  I don't particularly care one way or the other but I'd wage to bet that we will sooner see a diesel then a second gas engine offering in the titan
