Looks like I will have to take off the skid plate under the oil filter to get to it...

Is there an easy way or do I just start removing bolts.....

It's actually not as bad as it looks.  I think six 10 mm bolts is all.  I used a cordless drill with a 1/4" socket and it went fast.  You don't have to jack the truck up to get under it, but it might help a little.  I always changed my oil filters each oil change - until my last one on my Titan.  I've always heard/read that you should change the filter every other oil change anyway.

just on principal i always change the filter even on the VWs I owned that the mileage rating on the filters was much longer I never let them go more then one change.  As for the skid plate there is a trap door which makes it very easy to access.  If its your first filter change though have fun getting it off!  I think they hired someone from the worlds strongest man to put the thing on.

if u have the off road package skid plate the entire thing does not need to be taken off, theres a small panel with 4 allen screws , just take that small panel off and u can get to ur filter through there....

Thanks for the replys folks.....

I have the tow package but not the off road package.....

I will take a look for that little trap door which I hope is there,

or I will have to take off the 10mm bolts.....

The oil filter would be in trouble for damage if it were not for that skid plate...

given the ride height of the titan i'd say the filter is likely fine at its present height even without the plate.  I had a VW GTi that rode very low to the earth and never smacked that so i doubt it would be an issue here

I have the Big Tow..my entire skidplate must be removed to reach the filter ...is easy though...just 4 bolts....I thought the little drip plate was a nice feature. I have only used OEM filters so far..is a hassle to go get them at times but I got to go to the dealership to get the darn crush gasket anyways....

you can order those crush gaskets at www.courtesyparts.com which is a nissan dealer...  heres the link for a 10 pack  http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=P ROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=11026-VK56DPK

as for filter damage, there are other main suspension parts you'd kill before the filter ever got hit lol
