I have a 2005 SE Titan with 10,000 miles on it. I have asked the dealer to check for an engine knock since it was new. The engine has a knock for 4-12 seconds when first started in the morning or after sitting for 10 hours or so. The knock is loud and the dealer has admitted to hearing the knock but claims that it is OK.

Does anyone else have this problem?? They claim that it comes from the cam housings? It sure sounds like it could cause engine damage in the future. I'm starting to think that the only way to solve the problem is with a lemon law attorney! I live in Florida.

Hi

I have noticed some days i get the knock and some days i get a puff of what looks like oil smoke.  98% of the time i get a clean start.  I am getting worried this truck is gonna crap out before 100,000 miles because i also have the 4x4 with the steel cover on the differential that doesn't heat correctly.  No other truck do you get all that you do though with the Titan for the Money so I am at a loss as what truck to buy but the Titan 07

I get a hesitation when starting out with a cold engine, but no knock.  It happens between 1000 & 1400 rpm and last for about 15 seconds.  If I give it more throttle it will not happen.  Never bothered with trying to get it serviced because I doubt they will find anything wrong and the duration of it is to short.  Other Titan owners have also said they have the same problem, but not everyone I've ask.  Knocking does not sound though.  Hopefully someone on here will be able to help you soon.

I have over 49K miles on my 04 Titan. This afternoon I got the loud knocking sound and a puff of smoke from the tailpipe when I cranked it up. It had sat for about 24 hours w/o being moved....I listened to it for about 10 seconds and then I turned it off and popped the hood. When I cranked it back up the noise was gone. I checked the oil and although it wasnt really low I added a few ounces to the crankcase. I have had the puff of smoke before when I crank it up, but never that loud knocking sound...Sounded like a valve or maybe a lifter....definately was coming from the engine though....hope I dont hear it again or I might begin to get worried.

Turned the key this morning to some knocking that slowly disapated i would suspect once the oil got moving.  Not sure I am likeing the thought of major engine work down the road.  Maybe its a Dodge 318 they put in this truck it will smoke and bang but never die LOL
