This is my 1st truck and my first time having to deal with towing anything..

I need to know what type of hitch I need to buy.  They have 2" lift/drop 4" etc...

Also, do all trailers have the same lighting plug or should I invest in some type of plug adapter?

Drew,

What are you towing?

If it's a boat or car trailer with a low tongue, you will likely need a 2'' drop.  Depending on the trailer, you will be able to turn the tongue drop down or turn it the other way to raise the ball. Most importantly, you want to make sure whatever the weight of your tow, that the ball you get is rated for above that weight AND MAKE SURE you get the ball with the correct size shaft to fit tightly into the tongue. It's dangerous if not. Use some loctitie on the ball nut as well as the lock washer.

The plug is a standard 7 to 4 flat pin plug.  You can order all of the things you need from here http://www.courtesyparts.com/titan/interior.html just verify you know how much weight you are towing and always account for extra.

Not knowing what you plan tow, it's hard to say what else you may need, perhaps trailer brakes if over 6000lbs.

Either way, you have a helluva machine to tow with!

I'd mostly be pulling smaller utility trailers (4 wheelers and ATV trailers)

I put a 2" on and it seemed that the trailer was a little too high. I didn't know if this is an issue, or if I should buy a hitch with a larger drop.

Thanks for the info on the sizing and the weight requirements. I'll always keep that in mind.

What about the lighting plug?  Is there a standard or do I need an adapter?  If I need an adapter, can anyone recommend one?

Thanks again!

Drew

You need the standard 4 plug adapter. It is a 7 flat pin to 4 adapter, and it can be purchased at any chain parts store, pep boys etc... A 5000lbs set up will surely meet your needs.
