Has anyone put an after market tow package on their Titan?  Mine didn't come with Big Tow and my dealer wasn't very helpful during the sales process about adding any other options.

I added a "Valley" Class III hitch.  Super easy.  The Titan's fram has nuts already welded to the frame.  So all you have to do is bolt it on.  It took me about 10 min.  I got mine from etrailer.com.  With a wiring harness plug it was 160.00.  The plug is super easy too.  Just remove the cover and plug it in.  Wamo, your wired up.

For the most part, mine was just as easy.  Also bought from etrailer.com.  Since my Titan did not have the big tow package (hence, needed a hitch) the relays in the fuse box under the hood were also not there.  These relays supply the power to the pre-wired harness behind the bumper.  The dealer wanted $80 for the two relays.  I declined and found them elsewhere.  The hitch bolted on nice and easy and the the plug is just as simple, as long as you have the relays.  Hope this helps.

I was told that the max towing cap of a titan without the big tow package was 7500 and could not get to the advertised 9100/9500. Has anyone heard the same or was this dealer BS I was hearing. My dealer also did not want to get into the sale of other options? I think they were mad because I got it for a grand under invoice. They just wanted me to leave. Thats what they get for asking" What will it take to make you drive out of here with this truck today?"

I think the 7500 to 9100/9500 also has to do with the gearing right?

I hope it "just" the gearing. I tought those of us without the tow package got a 3.42 rear gear and the tow packages gave 3.73 BT1 and 4.11BT2. I might be wrong though. Does anyone know...the dealers sure don't.

Get a class 5 hitch and you will get the 9400 lbs tow rating. 2 5/16 ball. Class five will haul more than that approx 12k. Truck is rated at 9400.

Class 3 is only rated around 5000 lbs

Thanks for the education on the Classes of hitches. I had no idea what to put on other than a class three

i'm pretty sure from the manual that the 9400/9500 lbs. is only for the big tow pkg.  i'd read the manual fully before attemping to tow in that weight range.

What does the Big Tow package really give you for towing besides mirrors and the hitch and the rear gear and VDC and Tranny temp guage? Do you get different leaf springs? Bigger oil and tranny pans? Oil and Tranny coolers?
