I was looking around under the truck the other day and I noticed the temp on the rear end when I put my hand on it, being curious I shot it with a temp gun and I got a high temp of 140° at the bearing area where the drive shaft enters the diffrencial. I called a local Nissan dealer to see what normal was they could not tell me then I called the toll free Nissan number, no help there either but they said they would get back with me. And told me to take to the dealer to have it checked, I just check the fluid level my self and it was fine, but I did get a call back from Nissan and they said it was normal to be hot but did not give a range. I'm sure 140° is ok but I will let the dealer check it out when I bring it in for my oil change, I supposed to get a fill up of gas when they give my first oil change, I wonder how many times I can talk them into a fill up of gas at thies prices! If any one does know what the normal diffrencial temp is let me know, Thanks!

When I bought mine they filled it up and then told me if I would bring in my customer survey when it came in the mail, they would fill it up again.. My salesman even even boasted on how a tankful of gas would be nearly $50 and well worth my time to bring in the survey...So I did..I even wrote a personal comment about their GREAT customer service, but then they only filled my tank half full. They claimed that they had stopped filling them up that month. But it was the same month that I purchased the truck. I complained briefly, but was running late for work so I let it go. The fact of the matter is, they LIED!! Once they got what they wanted (the survey) they renigged on their promise. Needless to say I have 2 friends that are contemplating buying Titans, in a large part due to my recommendations....but I also steered them away from Landers Nissan...Sorry Landers, but look on the bright side...you saved $25 .....lol

Hey guys, i'm new to the forum...i think its great.
I discovered the TITAN forum yesterday and read through the posts. I found this one and conducted the same test after driving home yesterday. I had my wife meet me in the driveway with my Raytek gun. After about a 15 mile, 45 minute commute, my rear diff was 135F.
If your dealer tells you this is a problem, please let me know.

Did you have any warning? What did the dealer say it caused it? I don't think I have a problem, but it is good to learn things to watch out for.

i did have two warnings. one was the rusty diff pan. it looked like it had gotten very hot, and was losing paint like brake pads. the second warning was the day i took it in. it started making a popping sound, and a whirring sound as i lightly accelerated, and decelerated.

I hope rust isn't a 100% indicator. Looked at mine during lunch today, and its rusty.

Hey friends, keep reading on this site. Another writer gave me a heads up about the rear differentials overheating and failing. After going through the front rotor warping problems, and having to replace the front brake pads at 30K miles, I traded my 04 for an 05 today. The 05 differentials have cooling fins on them to keep them cooler. I suggest you contact your dealer and request that they retrofit your truck with the modified cover plates. Stop in your dealer's and look under the 05's to see the modified covers.
