i have installed the volant cool air intake system.  there is also an accessory opening on the bottom of the box that is installed.  do you leave that opening open or do you put the rubber boot over it?  also, i expected some gain in mpg, but absolutely nothing yet.

You leave the rubber boot over it. That opening is for the ram air scoop add on. But you say no gains? Is everything pretty tight and fitted?

as far as i know.  without it i got b/w 15.5 and 16.5 mpg.  no change with the volant intake from what i have calculated.  i will check to see if all is tight.  but im pretty sure it is.  i swear the best mpg i got is with the tailgate down.  17.5 mpg.  only calculated this once, though.

Hmm. I'm stumped on this one. I've been able to get over 15mpg city and 20+ on the highway and definetly tell a difference in power. Have you tried contacting Volant on your problems? You may have to reinstall it completely or sell the airtake on ebay (probely at a loss)  and put in the ol' factory intake.

definitely an increase in power no doubt.  a big difference.  checked all the connections today and put that rubber boot back on the accessory opening like you suggested.  by the way, thanks for all the feedback.  will probably keep the intake, though.  maybe it will work in conjunction with changing to full synthetic oil at my next oil change.  i am at 6k now.

alot of things will help with fuel econ.  You just have to keep your foot out of it, and that is a task in itself.

I myself run Magnaflow. Not real loud but makes a great "race car" sound. As far as fuel economy, alone it won't help, but with an air intake it will help improve slightly.

hey pied piper.  since you have replied to many of my questions with great knowledge, i want to ask you about something i read.
trust me, this is good.  i read that the computers are so smart and kind of govern themselves and if you do modify the air intake, it will recalibrate the system to get the stock gas mileage again after 500 miles.  this may have been what happened with me.  at first, you get good gains in mpg, then reverts to stock situations again.
what do you think?
