LE with Tow Package, anyone know what kind  of rear end we have?  limited-slip, standard, etc...

I found my answer in the manual.  It's a normal rear-end, and needs 80-90w.  I'll be putting in Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube.

All Titans with the Big Tow Package include Vehicle Dynamic Control. Part of VDC is what Nissan calls ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip). If you have wheel spin on one wheel wheel, ABLS applies the brake to just that individual wheel, transferring the power to the other wheel.

A later option is the Electronic Locking Differential. This was an afterthought in the Titan. The decision was made to add it after talking with focus groups and realizing that so many current truck owners had it in their head that it had to have "limited slip" that they could not grasp the concept of ABLS. Nissan was affraid some buyers may stray if they could get a 'good 'ol lockin diff".

The VDC / ABLS is newer technology. VDC alone is worth the cost of the Big Tow Package even if you never plan on towing anything.

what I heard was that the LSd rear comes newer Off Road package.
(not the big tow) and that VDC can not work with the LSD so you
loose the VDC. The LSD rear was a delyed release. Not sure if they
still offer both set ups or they have just done away with the VDC Off
Road Package all together. Some online souce show two available Off
Road Packages other only show one. For the record VDC is not very
high tech or new. All it does is apply the brakes to spinning wheels.
It's a better setup for the street and light off roading. LSD is better for
hardcore offroading.

Anyone else feel there is excessive back lash in the ring and pinion?

I feel it when I pull away from a stop. Somethings not quite right there.

Rear end problems? U joints?

Attached is a copy of the official Nissan model guide for July. This is the document dealers use to prepare and place their order.

http://www.sutherlinonline.com/modelguide.pdf

The Titan starts on page 12.

Note there are now two Off Road Packages and two Tow packages for the 4x4. The differences being that one (of each) has the ABLS (part of VDC) and the other has the Locking Diff.

Anyone successful in turning the ABLS off?

It does NOT turn on off on my SE CC with Big Tow.

VDC WILL turn off and will be indicated on the dash by lit "VDC OFF" inducator, and I'll still get the "spin" indicator flashing like crazy on the dash when I break around a corner. It'll even pull the throttle back. Well, I'm guessing it's the ABLS becuase it's modulating the rear wheels and the DBW throttle.

VDC is great news to me!  I think I have a tow package on my '05 LE 4X4.  I was thinking I wished the guy who ordered this truck would have order the electronic locking diff, but after reading this if I have VDC I'm very happy.

How can I find out what exactly this truck has for tow package?  It does have a transmission temp guage, the larger mirrors, a receiver hitch mounted?

One way to tell if it has the electronicly locking differential is to look under the truck. It will have some wires going to the center of the rear end. Most 4X4 trucks with the off road package has this.
