If you haven't checked the rear differential fluid level, check it as soon as possible!  There have been some posts about burned up rear ends, and low fluid level reported by quite a few posters on these boards.

When I checked mine, it was about THREE INCHES below the fill hole.  It's supposed to be level with the fill hole.  I also changed mine and put in synthetic fluid.

Mine was also 2 1/2 to 3" below fill hole.  Made dealer top it off!

On the back of the rear differential is a plug that screws into it.  This plug has an indentation that a 3/8 drive ratchet will fit into.  Take plug out, and you should feel oil by putting your little finger in the hole no further then the first knuckle.  (3/4 inch down)  My self, I fill to the bottom edge of fill hole.

You should fill it to the bottom of the fill hole, that's standard practice for any rear-end.

If you've got 4WD you better check the front diff too. Both diffs in our two trucks had low oil levels. Buy one of those inexpensive pump tops with hose that screws right on to the 80W-90 bottle. Much easier & less messy than the squeeze method I used. My LE was built 2/04. Son's SE was built in May, so the oil rationing at Canton is likely still going on. Sasilverbullet's fill level is correct as stated in the Titan Service Manual for front and rear. Good luck.

Hey Thanks for the heads up...mine was fine...

But I think learned something else.  Was that a diff drain plug facing down !!!

That is great. Makes it real easy to  drain/change pumpin fluid. Is this plug magnetized to catch any break-in  shavings?

What is everyone's take on Synthetic diff oil?   I never used it ibefore due to I change fluids alot. The Titan will never leave hard road so I expect to not change fluid that much...just after long trips towing the Jeep.

I have a built up 4X4 jeep and Play alot in the mud and Swamps. It is a major PIA to change fluids in the diffs. I have to break open the covers every time and re-seal it. But the hour of work protects the $2000 worth of lockers and gears.

Yes, that's a drain plug facing down.

Yes, it's magnetized.

I put in Mobil 1 diff oil.  It's the same benefit as running Mobil 1 in the engine (which I do).  It has better specs, and thereby lasts longer and gives you more protection also.

I checked my rear differential fluid level and it was low. So, after surfing the net and talking with a few Nissan dealers, I came to the conclusion that Amsoil 80W-90 gear lube was the best lubricant on the market. Simply put, it is the best synthetic lubricant money can buy.

http://www.amsoil.com/

My dealer told me this is what Nissan uses for differential fluid in Titans. It's got the consistency of molasses. Since this truck generates so much torque, I can't see using anything else to keep the ring and pinion gears from grinding against one other.

This stuff isn't cheap, however. A quart of gear lube goes for $7.65, but well worth it when I consider how much I paid for this truck.
