I have a 2005 Titan SE Crew Cab 2 wheel drive with tow package.  It gets 13-16 MPG normally when not towing.  I recently purchased an 18ft dual axle box trailer approx 2800 lbs un-loaded and approx 3800 lbs loaded.  I towed the trailer from Calif to Georgia a back (4800 miles)  I only averaged 5-6 MPG, even though it was mostly flat driving and was only tacking at approx 2500 RPM most of the time.

Nissan dealer checked the truck when I returned and said everything looks fine.  Any ideas?

Trailer was not that heavy, and it sounds like you were doing 75+ mph.  I would have used 5th gear which would have drop the tach down to about 2100.

And I complain about 10-11mpg at 75mph plus running 4th gear much of the time, third up hills and OD on flat ground...

I'd say you had a helluva head wind or some serious issues here. I tow about 2500lbs with the race car and its trailer. Run the crap out of the truck towing it too- curise, OD the whole thing that some feel is just so wrong. Never had, nor expect any problems.

Then again around town this truck passes everything but a gas station. With its whopping 11-12mpg. But hey; I get to the races quick.

4800 miles / 5 mpg = 960 gal

960 gal * $3 per gal = $2880

If you waited until you had used 25 of the 28 gal tank capacity to fill up, that would mean you stopped to gas up every 125 miles (or every 2 hours) for a total of apprx 38 tank fulls.......My apologies if all this is true, but I think after filling up the 2nd time in less than 300 miles, I would have turned around, went home and figured something else out.....lol...hopefully you just figured your mpg incorrectly....if not, DONT keep on truckin...park it!...lol

I have a 2005 Titan LE Crew Cab with the tow package.  I recently towed my 20 foot travel trailer from Fairbanks, Alaska to Baltimore, Maryland.  The trailer has a dry wieght of 3600 lbs and loaded it was probably around 4500 lbs.  I averaged between 8.5 and 10.5 MPG.  The majority of the time I was driving between 60 and 65 MPH and was running the A/C for the majority of the trip

I have a 2005 Titan with the tow package and I tow a 29' travel trailer (7200 pds) and I get 11 miles to a gallon.  I gues I should not complain.

I do have the AirHog air filter and added true dual Borla exhausts.  I little noisy but a lot more power.
