My Titan came with keyless entry but I also thought it acted as an alarm but the other day I hit the lock button, the horn honked and doors locked. I then reached inside (I left the window down) and manually unlocked the door and opened it. To my shock no alarm sounded!

What I don’t understand is my remote has a panic button that makes the horn honk and lights flash, why wouldn’t opening the door trigger the same function?

So basically someone can break a window (or slim jim) and open the door and I would never hear a sound. This is totally unacceptable. Dose anyone know if a factory alarm is available and how much it costs? Ease of install etc.

Thx in advanced.

I have a factor alarm on my LE. I set the alarm and jumped in the bed to grab something and it went off.

Mitch,

I am looking at the same truck that you have.  I was wondering if you were concerned about gas mileage when you chose the tow package with the lower rear end?

Mine has a alarm. I've set it off a few times by accident. It has a motion detector also. LE and XE come standard with a alarm.

I bought my Titan to tow a race trailer around, so I wanted the tow package. I kinda thought I would lose mileage but thats the price you pay. I get 13-15mpg in town and I only one trip on the highway and I got 16mpg but, I got stuck in Denver rush hour stop and go traffic so it probably killed it.

Page 2-20 of the owner's manual states how to arm the security system.

Item 1 states that the system can be armed with the windows down.

Item 4 states that the system enters a prearmed state for 30 seconds and in this time if the door is unlocked with the key or keyfob the system will not arm.

I think that reaching inside and manually unlocking the door is the same as using the key in the lock and therefore the system was not armed when he opened the door.

Try it again and let the system arm (indicated by the light flashing a 3 second intervals)  then reach in and unlock your door.  If it does not set off the alarm...

Go see your dealer

Thx for the great info watsor, Ill definitely check it out further tomorrow. It sounds like if I arm it and then wait a few minuets, then open the door it should go of. I’ll also try jumping up and down in the bed to see if it has some sort of motion sensor.

What would be really handy is if someone knew of a sticker or something somewhere on the truck that stated exactly if and what kind of alarm the truck came with. I bought it off the lot so I didn’t specify what options I wanted. I just saw keyless remote and assumed that meant alarm too.

Ill keep u guys posted on what happen tomorrow.
