I have an early 04 XE 4x4 Titan w/offroad package. After looking around some I have noticed that (being one of the earlier 04's) it does not have the "Class-exclusive* switch-on-demand electronically controlled locking rear differential (switch operated)".

My offroad package cost 1000 extra, and now I see that the newer 04's are 450 dollars more, I assume it's for the locking differential.

Question: Does anyone here have this option? And  if they do, is it worth the extra?

I wonder if my truck can be upgraded if this does work really well? And is there any problems with this newer locking differential?

No! It is not worth it. The thing that they do not tell you is that it can only be locked in when you are in four low. This is useless in all the applications that I have encountered. I would much prefer a regular locking differential. I am now stuck with this rear end and can not go to a regular locking differential from DANA. I would like one for driving in snow and pulling out of slick boat ramps. I wish Nissan told people about this BEFORE they bought this option.

Well, looks like blind luck and ignorance has guarded me once again!

Thank you very much for this info! I did take the Titan out in the woods and do some fast take offs in 4 wheel high and low. Each time I gunned it, both rear wheels would spin evenly. Which kind of impressed me. I guess you would have to be in mud or heavy sand to see it spin just one wheel. I have had this truck for a week now and I love this thing! If it runs as good and drives as nice as it does now with 100,000 miles on it, I will be one happy camper!

I traded a 99 Ford Mustang Cobra Convertible in on it last week. She was my baby, but my old Chevy truck was worn out and I needed a new one, but couldn't afford two payments, so the stang had to go.

Driving the Titan has been so much fun it has eased the pain!
