Hey all,

I wanted a fast, cheap way to secure the stuff in my bed... and that UtiliTrack railing is what made it EZ. Here is what I came up with:

I made a very heavy duty cover for the Titan utilizing the rails on the utilitrack system. It is simple. It has 3 interlocking 3/4" plywood panels using aluminum trim channel (back to back) in between. Because it is supported all the way around inside the utilitrack system (except the back) and there are these channels on each pannel, this is a very sturdy rig! Notice the bicycle fork mount I've installed to carry my bikes. I use the rear panel handle to secure the back tire of the bicycle.

Here are some photos:

I also found plastic bins at Home Depot/Lowes that fit underneath perfectly!

The olny rreason it cost my this much is because i used a sheet of interior birch plywood @ $45 for the 4x8 sheet!

I am impressed with your engineering.  I have found myself looking at it thinking, "what would I do differently?"  So far, it serves its purpose.  Is it a snug fit or will it slide back and forth?  Again..........good job.

Silver Bullet,

As to your Q: It is so snug the tail gate almost does not close!... I had to re-cut the last panel twice... er, a three times to get it just right.

I have not had it on long enough to know what I'd do different yet, but I'm sure some things will crop up.

My first idea was to hinge the panels together, being able to flop one on top of the other... but with 3/4" ply it gets to be a heavy handfull pretty quick, so I made it 3 panels... managable.

One thing I like right off the bat is that it is wood... EZ to mount stuff on... and it was cheap enough so if I screw up I can replace the wood easily enough.

I'll post a "review" after my road trip next week...

CJS...

Do you think that the weather might play a factor in the wood expanding or contracting.  Come to think of it, the paint would help out in that.  Look forward to your long term thoughts.

Hi everyone,

New Titan owner as of yesterday. Love the truck!

I was searching the board looking for different Racks and I see in CactusJackSlade's pictures that he has a roof mounted rack that looks like a Thule. Can anyone please point me to where I can get one f those?  Thanks,

Fred

What happened to the pix of CactusJackSlade's fine tonneau.  I was trying to show it to my wife, but the pix don't appear in the post.  Is it my pc, or did they get moved?
