Any suggestions which is better? Volant or  K & N ? Volant has a premium coolair intake for about $325.00 and a  hyperflow intake for $128.00. Besides the price , whats the diff.?

One of the differences is the Volant is supposed to be 50 States Smog Legal. The K & N is Offroad use only. Since I live in California I chose the Volant. I notice a little better throttle response and it makes acceleration noise (that I like) which is common for Air Intake upgrades.

The K&n Kit is pretty good, I look at it this way, why take your factory airbox out and stick another box rightin, altough the volant makes a good kit but also cost an arm & leg. Both will give you about the same amount of hp. Also try a catback exhaust sys. Banks make a monster 3" and JBA makes a 2 1/5 and also headders.

I just ordered the Volant system with the "HyperFlow" intake tube.

The main reason I went with the Volant was the plastic material used, it does not conduct heat like aluminum does... and that is one of the objectives - cool intake air.

From what I have read and experienced, the air box is typically not the restrictive element, but rather the filter or filtering material. K&N type screen mesh w/gauze type filtration pass a lot more air than paper... and more dirt too.

I am looking into an AMSOIL replacement filter for my Volant system... they flow as good as a K&N filter, but filter more dirt out of the air. I used an AMSOIL filter on my HardBody Nissan for 17 years... it's still running strong.

I just ordered the Banks "Monster" exhaust, we shall see very shortly how it all works together.... on the phone Banks claimed 20hp and 30lb torque.

All I need now is a reprogrammed chip!

I can't say that I know anything about the Volant because I didn't even know it existed before tonight. However, I purchased the K&N kit and was completely unsatisfied with it. I've had a couple of K&N intake kits before on other cars, but this is the only one I didn't like. It didn't help my mileage or my performance. It actually seemed to make them worse. Needless to say, I removed it and I think I'm just going to stick to the stock airbox and possibly a drop-in filter.

The factory generally does a pretty good job of designing the systems for the engine but improvement can sometines be found. Nissan's first shot at the full size truck market has the Big three pissing their pants We may not see much improvement through intakes. The Skylines(G35) sdeans don't repond well ti intakes. They best mod for them is to use the 350s intake piping. That actually shows true gains on any dyno , not just the makers dyno...Stillen. The mass air flow box made by Stillen, for the G35 sedans, actually costs you horsepower and torque. To the tune of: 7hp & 11 ft. lbs.  SORRY this is lloking like a rant
