I just purchased a 05 Titan LE crew cab 4x4 off road package just yesterday. Just like any other new toy, trusted friends and family members wanted to play. Turns out one of my friends has a problem listening to directions. I let him drive the car for about 15 miles while I was riding shotgun and I had to constantly tell him to quit flooring the vehicle. He did this about four times during the course of the trip ocassionally braking hard and taking the corners hard. When we arrived I told him to fork over the keys. The truck had about 45 miles on it. Do you guys think he could have done any long term damage with the truck not getting the proper seal? I did the same to the truck I test drove at nissan which had about 70 miles. According to my brother who rode with the person who delivered my car from another dealership, that person was pretty heavy on the gas of my truck as well. For a truck this expensive I would like to treat it right. Unfortunately some people not paying for the truck did not. This is the first vehicle I bought that cost me this much, 38k. I guess its karma for me doing the same to the car I test drove. What do you guys think about the break in. My manual says 1500 not to go over 4000rpm.  You think those instances could have affected the long term life of the vehicle like the manual says it would?

Two schools of thought on that. One says drive like you stole it and the other says not to. Forget about it.

I would refrain from towing anything for a while and immediately check your rear diff fluid. Many in 04 had low fluid out of the factory. These Titan Dana rears are very "tight" from the factory and build a significant amout of heat and wear-in materials during the first 1000-2000miles. Plan on changing your rear diff fluid during that time and use synthetic.

I would not worry about what your friend did. When they test at the factory, they most likely didn't take it easy their either. They didn't at the Honda factory I toured.

See this post maybe this will help some. When I was breaking mine in I didn't baby and I didn't hotrod it either. Just drive normal. As for your friend dogging on it, It was probably dogged on once or twice in a test drive before you were interested in the truck. I wouldn't tow anything until you get abot 1000 or 2000 miles on her. though. Don't worry enjoy your truck.

Thanks guys, I really love the truck. Can't think of anything better to do than starting that engine up to hear it roar. My wife wanted a Tundra but we are happy we got the Titan after owning it for almost 4 days. Having given up the single life in having a wife and 2 kids, I thought i would never have so much fun or be happy driving a truck. Had to give up my 1995 M3  and forced myself to be practical. This is my first truck after having researched and test drove a number of trucks, I was little reluctant to buy a nissan truck but I am happy I did. The torque in this truck is addictive. This truck is seriously tempting me to buy some thing to haul. Who woulda thought that Nissan would make such a great full size v8 truck. I heard that there is a supercharger for this truck. Sweeeet!!!!
