I know what the manual says, and it seems really excessive to me. Personally, I would think you would be set to go after 500 miles. What did you all do?
Thanks

Up to about 1000 miles I took it easy, but after that I pretty much drove like I normally do.
Pretty sure the Titan is ready for the challenge straight off the lot.

If you break in the Titan the same way as a Sentra, I bought one of those too, then for the first 1,000 miles you're not supposed to exceed 4,000 rpm in any gear and try not to drive at a constant speed either slow or fast. The pistons need time to be seated and racing the engine beyond the stated limit during the break in period could have adverse effects later on. Plus, you're not supposed to "wind up" the Endurance V8. It's a truck motor afterall, and it doesn't rev as freely and as easily as a 4 cylinder mill like the 2.5 liter motor in my '04 Sentra.

Thanks for the replies. I have about 500 miles and am just itching to let her run a little. But I guess I should wait. I have been told by mechanics that on modern cars there is no need to really break them in. I am selling Cadillacs while I finish up school and I know that the break in period ends at 500 miles on our cars, and it is the same with pretty much everything else.

I'm at 1100 miles right now. I have not taken it over 4000 RPM,
(although I cannot wait to redline it at 6100 once I pass break in
period), not have I punched it.
I changed the original oil at 1000 miles to get the break in oil out.
I've adjusted the cruise on the highway drives at 70 for a bit, then
60, then 65, etc...just so I wouldn't drive the entire way at the same
speed.

I tried to take it easy and gradually worked up to more
aggressive driving as the miles increased. I do see
though that by comparing what i did to the manual I was
very similiar. Also I had my oil changed
slightly early at 2000 miles

Guess you haven't been past 4k rpm on that engine yet, the power band from 4k to 6k is pretty wicked :)

you should leave the oil in until the first recomended interval. It helps everything break in. I break in motorcycles for my job, so I'm breaking in my titan the same way. Go easy on it with varied throttle postions. every once in a while get on it for a second or two. Steady speed on the freeway is a definate no-no.
