I just changed my nissan Titan's oil at 4k today. I drive 90%
highway. The oil came out pitch black. There was some black
stuff caked onto the top of the oil plug, which I had to use a brush to
remove. The nissan stealership wasn't open so I couldn't get a
nissan filter. I went with a purolater pureone, because it has
the anti drain back valve like the nissan filter. I used mobile1
5w30. My question is, what is the point of the crush
washer? Is it really necessay to change it every time the oil is
changed? I'll buy the nissan filter and washer next time, but am
I going to mess something up now. Is it going to start leaking on
me? Also is there anyway to get to the filter off without taking
the skid plate off, It's kind of a pain in the *ss. I'd also
like to know if the $44 k&n filter is actually worth anything.
Thanks,
lp

IMHO I think the K&N is worth it. It should pay for itself after 4-5 changes, plus the added benefit of increased air flow..etc
