I have been debating on whether or not to start using synthetic oil myself.  I have never used it before, but am open to it, if the reasoning is there.

What I have heard:

1. Engines can go 200,000 miles and show virtually no wear if you use synthetic from the beginning.

2. You only have to change your oil and filter something like once every 15,000 miles.  The months don't really matter as long as you are driving the vehicle (i.e. every 3 months OR 3,000 miles, with conventional oil).

Can I get some feedback and educating here?  I am willing to spend the extra cash and want to use whatever is best.  I am a firm believer oil is one of the best insurances for an engine.

Thanks for all your help.

I have ran synthetic oil in my last 2 cars and plan to run it in the Titan when i start doing oil changes.  First things first pretty much the overlooked fact is that if you change the oil often enough you may be able to run any engine for a very long time.

Second even when I was running Mobil 1 I would only push it as far as perhaps 6,000 miles...perhaps you can go further but for what an oil change costs you are better off doing it more sooner then later.  You basically just have to be deligent with your changes and keep up the maintenance.

You might be interested in sending your oil away for analysis to see what level of impurities is in it.

I started a thread on this over at DSLReports, where I am also a member.  Everyone over there pretty much said to forget the synthetic, especially if I am changing my oil and filter religiously every 3months/3K miles.  I'll get plenty of engine life with that oil change schedule.

I've always understood that synthetic is better for stop and go traffic since it takes a higher temp to breakdown compared to conventional oil.
