Welcome. I am ready to buy a new Titan in the next couple of weeks. I read somewhere, maybe on the Nissan site or a comparison, that the truck required high octane fuel. Is the correct? That certainly increases the cost per mile. And doesn't make the milage look so good. What have you guys found? Thanks,

Jim

There's been a lot of discussion on titantalk.com about this.  It seems that Nissan used premium fuel for their advertised mileage and power, but the manual says that the truck needs a minimum of 87 octane (the manual states 91 RON which is 87 AKI).

There is still some experimentation on whether there is an increase in power or mileage when using premium fuel.  However rest assured that regular unleaded will work fine in the Titan.

Thanks Rob. Higher octane is a waste of money unless pinging.

I've run everything in between 87 to 94 only because I was experimenting and as stated it runs just as well with regular then with premium so save your pennies and just get regular

I posted this in another thread. I think it's worth repeating:

I was watching a reputable auto show and a comment was made that ALL vehicles are made to run in ALL countries.  Many countries don't have premium gas so manufactures must tune their vehicles to run on the lower octane fuel.  They used the $200,000 Porsche as an example.

They said that you should ONLY use higher octane if you are getting an engine ping.  Otherwise, you are wasting your $$..

Cars also have an anti knock sensor which the computer will adjust the timing so it will not ping.

I've always been told that premium gas was not needed unless required by the mfg...Also, using a higher octane fuel did not result in a better mpg. I have conducted my own MPG comparisons in other autos I have owned and never noticed a benefit from using 90+ octane. As previously stated, as expensive as fuel is these days, I'd have to see a 1-2 mpg increase to warrant 20-30 cents more per gallon.

I think the most cost effective method of saving on fuel is to upgrade to a K&N type air filter and go easy on the gas pedal. On the other hand if we were so concerned about fuel economy, we wouldnt have purchased a 5.6 liter V8  ...lol    keep on truckin!
