I just installed my volant air intake on Saturday the 24th. I made sure to disconnect the battery cable to reset the computer. Sure enough on my 1st city run I got 13.5 mpg (usual 11 or 12) and an amazing 18.5 mpg (usual 14-15) in my 4x4 05' king cab. I even siliconed everything off to make the system more air tight cause it wasn't what it should have been. The factory system is actually pretty well sealed straight in to the fender wall.

I heard from this web site that after 500 miles the computer somehow adjusts back to a stock "situation". The pat 2 days I have driven over 800 miles back and 4th from LA, to AL. I received 17.6 and 17 mpg yesterday. Today, the same hwy driving, after hitting the 500 mile mark, my mpg was 15.8 after 250 miles then 15.4 after 171 miles!!!!!!!!! (and that was more stedy driving)

It must be true about the computer after 500 miles!!!!!...................How can I fix this problem? What can be done so I won't have to disconnect my cable after every 500 miles. I will disconnect it tmrow and see if it is really true. I will be back on the hwy again. This motor can obviously be efficient but the truck is not tuned to be efficient. I have already had it put on the diagnostic machine and everything registered fine.

I too have a Volant intake, but never disconnected the battery to reset the computer. I received better gains in mpg and torque, and still have those gains without ever reseting the computer. I don't know why, but that has been 6 months or more and still see the same output.

Thats interesting? My gains in mpg clearly went way down. They have always been very inconsistant anyway. I keep track of every tank, and I can drive the same route and have considerably different mileage(not completely but noticable as if it were different kind of driving)...............The only reason I bought the intake was for mpg gains, though it is nice to have a little extra power.

i had my volant intake in my truck for about 3 months, and noticed that my mpg went down as well. definitely an increase in hp and torque, though. i have a 4x4. maybe the gains are different from the 4x2. i have since replaced the stock intake and put in a k&n drop in filter and will post results.

I did the K&N drop thing, but really didn't see any prominent results. However, it would be the last air filter that you would have to buy for it though.

It's definitely an improvement over the factory air intake. It's just frustrating, because this can obviously be a more efficient engine (18.5 mpg-over 70 mph cruising speed plus a 30 minute slow moving pace because of interstate problems), but there are little things robbing it of its maximum performance. I just like to figure out what.

how do you reset the computer? just disconnect the battery? how long?

As far as I know, that resets the computer............Just disconnect the bat. cable. Doesnt take too long but if you connect it back right away the radio and clock are still set. I leave it off long enough for those to be reset. This past Thurs. I drove slightly over 200 miles all interstate and filled up in Alabama on i-65. I got 15.1 mpg. I had already gone over thwe 500 mile mark. After disconnecting the cable while pumping gas , resetting it and driving to asheville, NC, I got 17.1 mpg through more hilly terrain and some stop and go driving. I noticed early on that my guage was dropping nuch slower. This works much of the time but my truck is inconsistant. On the way back to MS from my trip I filled up and disconnected the cable. I couldn't even reach 15 mpg 100% interstate. My speed was set about 4 mph faster on the trip back (about 77mph), but it was very consistent driving. From all the posts I have seen, every truck is different. I still want to call and confirm with Nissan about this issue. I drive a lot and 2mpg is a huge help to me.
